Last Game
Kavin Keyes and Trever Morrison each posted two hits and five OSU pitchers held Utah to nine hits and a run as the Beavers claimed the series win with a 5-1 victory Saturday afternoon. Keyes hit a solo home run in the second inning and OSU added solo runs in the third and fourth and two more in the fifth to take, at the time, a decisive 5-0 lead. Andrew Moore allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings for the win.
Keyes Likes Coming Home
Kavin Keyes, a native of Sandy, Utah, has had a pretty good weekend against the Utes. The senior is 5-for-10 over the two games and has a solo home run and two runs batted in. In eight career games against Utah, he is 13-for-33 (.394) with three doubles, one triple, one home run and four RBI.
Going For 10
A win Sunday by Oregon State would net the Beavers their 10th consecutive victory; OSU’s nine-gamer enters the game tied for second nationally. A 10th-straight win would give the Beavers at least one 10-plus game win streak in four of the last five seasons.
That Sweep Thing, Too
That 10th consecutive win would also give the Beavers a sweep of the Utes. An OSU sweep would make it three consecutive seasons the Beavers swept their first league opponent, and all on the road. OSU swept Cal in Berkeley in 2012 and Arizona in Tucson last season.
Fry Notes
Jace Fry enters Sunday’s game just eight days after tossing the fifth no-hitter in school history. His last hit against came in the ninth inning March 1 against Wright State in a game he allowed seven total. Opponents are batting .225 against him this season.
Singles
• Fans should note that Smith’s Ballpark is the same location as the series played in 2012. It was recently renamed after being known as Spring Mobile Ballpark.
• Pat Casey needs one win to tie Cal’s Bob Milano for the 10th-place on the Pac-12’s all-time wins list. Casey has 687 in 20 seasons with the Beavers.
• OSU’s team ERA is at a season-low 1.92.
• OSU has held opponents to three runs or less in the last nine games and two runs or less in eight of those nine contests.
• Sunday’s game marks the Beavers’ last scheduled contest in the Mountain Time Zone this season.
• OSU is 13-0 when collecting more hits.
