Bouska, Chirichigno Hit, but Beavers Fall to ASU

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Senior Hannah Bouska and junior CJ Chirichigno both tallied hits, but the Oregon State softball team was unable to repeat Friday’s upset, as it fell to No. 5/7 Arizona State 11-0 Saturday afternoon at OSU Softball Complex in Corvallis, Ore.
Bouska finished the day 1-for-1, while Chirichigno went 1-for-2. Junior Dani Gilmore earned her 90th careers walk in the contest, moving her within six of Kelly Peterson for second on Oregon State’s (10-14, 1-1 Pac-12) all-time list. Freshman Alexis Gonzalez also walked.
The crowd of 522 was the largest at OSU Softball Complex since 2012.
The Sun Devils (27-4, 1-1) jumped out to an early lead with four runs in the first inning. The Beavers were able to shut down the Arizona State offense for the next two frames, before the Sun Devils added a pair in the fourth, in spite of the defensive prowess of senior Isabelle Batayola, who made a diving catch for the second consecutive game to help limit the damage. The Sun Devils came back with five runs in the fifth to end the contest.
The Beavers will return to action tomorrow, as they look to take the series from Arizona State. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
