Oregon State Quotes vs. Portland
Head Coach Scott Rueck
On his general impression of the game…
“I am happy with the win. I love the way we came out. I think we executed well tonight. This is veteran team in Portland with a new coach so there was a lot of unknowns going into this game and I thought we came out and really executed both ends of the floor very well.”
On, the atmosphere surrounding the Oregon State Woman’s Basketball program today…
“There is a great buzz for this team because of what these players had accomplished a year ago. They earned it. There is also a great expectation of course, this year.”
On, what was it like playing Portland this year as compared to last year when the score was much closer…
“Well it was nice to be home, but it just shows progress. A year ago we were down 10 at the half. Ruth wasn’t Ruth at that time; we weren’t anything near what we were towards the end of the year. It was a sign of a young team that grew up so much as the year went on.”
Senior Guard Ali Gibson
On being focused and starting each half strong…
“I think it’s something we’re focusing on this year. Before each half we always talk about focusing and getting off to a good start because it sets the tone. It’s something very important to us.”
On the excitement around this season from the fans…
“It’s exciting, this is the first time I’ve come into a season ranked and it’s cool to have that challenge with the fans behind us. I think since I’ve been here this was the biggest crowd for opening day, so it’s exciting to have them behind us and to get the season started.”
Junior Center Ruth Hamblin
On focus for the first half…
"I wanted to start the season off right and my guards did a great job of getting me the ball. I thought we executed well tonight."
