Head Coach Scott Rueck
On the team’s performance overall…
"We made a lot of progress today on things that we have been working on. We executed at a pretty high level today on both ends of the floor. We were accurate in executing our systems defensively; we kept them out of transition, which was something we were always trying to do. Offensively we pushed the tempo, we shot the ball well and we were accurate in it. We never relaxed; we put 40 great minutes together and kept our intensity up. Early in the year that's what you're hopping to see."
On where the team could continue to improve…
"Defensively we gave up some back-cuts early in the game; that's an area that we will continue to improve in. As the game went on I thought we did better for the full 30 seconds. certainly we need to look at free throw shooting. That's really the only negative thing about us today on the stat sheets, and it’s something that will come with time and hard work. Today is great for us to see where we are at and what we need to work on. Everything will get better and we will look at the film and work on things that need to be fixed."
Senior Ali Gibson
On what it was like to get back in action…
"We have been working hard all pre-season and it feels good to be rewarded with this game. It’s good to see us execute what we wanted to and see everyone play well."
On her 5-for-6 shooting…
"For me it was defiantly the movement of the offense. The passes where right on the spot, which we practiced a lot. Just hitting people on time was a big part of it.”
Junior Jamie Weisner
On getting the season started…
"We have been working hard against each other, beating each other up in practice. It feels good to go out there and play against different faces, and just show people what we’ve got."
On her impressive shooting performance…
"For me, it was a lot of inside out. We would kick the ball in, the defense collapsed and my teammates hit me. Obliviously the more open you are the easier the shot is."
