Ben Wetzler Taken In Fifth Round By Philadelphia In MLB Draft

June 7, 2013
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State left-handed pitcher Ben Wetzler has been selected in the fifth round (151st overall) of the MLB First-Year Player Draft by Philadelphia on Friday.
Wetzler is 8-1 with a 1.98 earned run average and two complete games in 14 starts this season. He was named to the Pac-12 Conference's first team last week and was a Corvallis Regional All-Tournament Team selection after throwing a one-run complete game against Texas A&M.
It is the second selection of Wetzler's career. He was selected in the 15th round of the 2010 MLB Draft by Cleveland but chose to attend Oregon State out of Clackamas High School.
Oregon State has now had seven players taken by Philadelphia since the draft began in 1968. Wetzler is OSU's first by the Phillies since Mike Stutes in 2008.
