Baseball Finishes 2013 Ranked Fourth

CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State baseball team is ranked fourth by all five major polls to conclude the 2013 season. It is the sixth time in school history the Beavers end a season ranked in the top 10.
Baseball America was the last to release its top 25, on Thursday, placing the Beavers at four, behind No. 1 UCLA, No. 2 Mississippi State and No. 3 North Carolina. Oregon State spent the entire season in Baseball America’s top 10, starting the year at No. 6 and moving to as high as No. 2 on March 25.
Perfect Game, ESPN/USA Today, Collegiate Baseball and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) all released their respective top 25s on Wednesday.
Collegiate Baseball also had Oregon State as high as No. 2 for three weeks during the 2013 season; March 11 to March 25.
The ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll was the lone set of rankings to have the Beavers outside the top 10 at any point during the 2013 season. The poll had OSU at No. 14 the first two weeks of the season before moving the Beavers to No. 5 on Feb. 25.
The NCBWA rated the Beavers as high as No. 3 on March 25, while the No. 4 ranking is the best mark of the season for Oregon State in Perfect Game’s poll.
Oregon State last found itself in the top 10 to end a season in 2011 when Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game all placed the Beavers at No. 10. Prior to that, OSU finished first in 2006 and 2007, seventh in 2005 and 10th according to Collegiate Baseball in 1963.
The 2013 season marks the 12th year the Beavers finished the season in a top 25 ranking. OSU is in the top 25 for the third consecutive season and seventh time in the last nine years.
Oregon State finished the 2013 season with a program-best 52-13 record, advancing to the College World Series for the fourth time in nine seasons. The Beavers won their third league title since 2005, going 24-6 in Pac-12 Conference play. The team’s .800 winning percentage in conference games marked the best by any league school since the then-Pac-10 unified in 1999.
The Beavers’ 52 wins in 2013 are good for fourth-most nationally, and the team’s .800 winning percentage ranks seventh.
