Last Game
Oregon State scored five runs in the first inning and held a 9-1 lead after three en route to a 12-4 victory over Kansas State on Sunday. The Beavers rapped out 21 hits in the win and Andrew Moore struck out nine in eight innings to get the win.
But His ERA Moved To 1.36
Andrew Moore won his 14th game of the season on Sunday, tying Scott Christman (1993) for the most in a single-season at Oregon State. Moore has tied the record in style, posting a 1.36 ERA - up from 1.22 before Sunday’s game - as he has thrown 10 consecutive quality starts. His win on Sunday was his ninth straight.
He’s Pretty Good, Too
Sunday’s probable starter, Ben Wetzler, has won eight consecutive games - over nine appearances - after allowing four hits and a run in nine innings against Texas A&M last weekend. Wetzler has allowed 10 earned runs in his last 33 innings of work, an ERA of 2.72. He has 39 strikeouts to just seven walks over that stretch of five games.
Elimination Games
Oregon State is 13-5 in postseason games under head coach Pat Casey where a loss would send the Beavers home (i.e. an elimination game). Oregon State won four consecutive elimination games to advance to the best-of-three finale at the 2006 College World Series, then held off North Carolina after the Tar Heels won the first game of that series.
On Mondays
Oregon State has played two games on Mondays this season, and is 2-0 in them. OSU won 5-4 in 11 innings against UC Riverside in Palm Springs on Feb. 18, and won 4-3 in 14 innings at Seattle on April 22.
Get Some Hits
The 21 hits Sunday marked a super regional record for the Beavers, and was just one shy of tying the postseason record of 22 against St. John’s at the 2005 Corvallis Regional. The 21 also marked a 2013 season best.
Singles
• Oregon State batted around in the first inning Sunday, scoring five runs as nine batters were sent to the plate. The Beavers last batted around in a super regional game in the second inning against Michigan in 2007.
