May 30, 2013
WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State sophomore men's golfer Scott Kim earned Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honors and senior Matt Rawitzer, junior David Fink and redshirt freshman Brian Jung all received honorable mention recognition, Commissioner Larry Scott announced on Thursday.
It's the third consecutive year Fink has been recognized for academic excellence by the conference office and the second straight year for Rawitzer. Kim and Jung received the honor for the first time in their careers.
An Oregon State men's golfer has now earned conference all-academic honors all 18 years since the recognition began in 1996.
Kim, a native of Richland, Wash., was named to the second team for his 3.63 GPA in Pre-Business. He played in five tournaments this past season and posted a scoring average of 75.13. His best finish was a tie for 25th at the San Diego Classic with a 6-over 222, and his best round was a 2-under 68 at the Topy Cup in Tanagura, Japan.
Fink carries a 3.35 GPA in Digital Communication Arts and adds the All-Academic recognition to the All-Pac-12 Second Team and PING All-Region Team honors he received earlier this month. He led the Beavers with a scoring average of 71.47, the fourth-best single-season mark in school history, and 16 sub-par rounds. The Kailua, Hawai'i native had five top-10 finishes, including tying for second place at the Gifford Collegiate and Amer Ari Invitational.
Rawitzer, a native of Bellingham, Wash., has a 3.36 GPA in Sociology. He competed in 11 of the 13 tournaments in his senior campaign and had a scoring average of 74.59. His best finish was a tie for 20th at the Amer Ari Invitational where he shot a season-best 4-under 68.
Jung, a Coquitlam, British Columbia native, has a 3.40 GPA in Pre-Business. He started his collegiate career with a second-place finish at the Mark Simpson Invitational where he fired an 11-under 205 to equal the fourth-lowest three-round score in school history. In his nine tournaments, he posted a scoring average of 73.93 with seven under-par rounds, including a pair of 5-under 67's.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and must be a starter or significant contributor.
