Beavers Selected for IRA Championships

May 21, 2013
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men's rowing team was selected, Tuesday, as an at-large team to race at the Intercollegiate Rowing Association (IRA) Championships May 31-June 2. The Beavers will make their first appearance at the IRA Championships since 2010 when they finished 17th.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the team to be back at IRA’s and to race against crews we haven’t seen all year,” head coach Steve Todd said. “This group has had returning to IRA’s as their goal all season.”
Oregon State received an at-large berth at IRA’s after finishing fourth, only two points short of an automatic qualification at the Pac-12 Championships. The Beavers’ Varsity Eight will also see several familiar opponents at IRA’s, having raced against six of the 24 crews.
In addition to the V8, OSU will also travel to Rancho Cordova, Calif. with three other crews – the JV Eight, the Varsity Four and an Open Four.
Racing will take place on Lake Natoma, which is the same course that Pac-12 Championships were held last weekend. Lake Natoma is located in the metropolitan Sacramento area, near the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. It is fed by the snow melt, by the American River and is a year-round, multi-use recreational area. The race course is a world-class facility for rowing, kayaking, canoeing, and other water sports.
