Men's Soccer Alumni Game Set for Saturday
April 24, 2013
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s soccer team continues its spring schedule this Saturday at Lorenz Field with a match against the Timbers U-23s followed by the annual Alumni Game at 1:00 p.m.
The day begins with the renewal of the friendly rivalry between the Beavers and the Major League Soccer club. Admission is open to the public and free of charge for the 11:00 a.m. kickoff. After that match, the current crop of Oregon State soccer talent will take on some of yesterday’s great OSU talent. Check-in for the Beavers Legends begins at noon.
The Alumni Luncheon follows the match at 2:30 p.m. For more information, please contact assistant coach Hank Stebbins at hankstebbins@gmail.com.
The Oregon State soccer program has plenty of prestigious alumni with Major League Soccer pedigrees. A pair of players from the 2012 team, Colin Mitchell, play for Toronto FC and the San Jose Earthquakes, respectively.
Welshman joined a long line of Oregon State players picked in the MLS SuperDraft. Robbie Findley was also selected 16th overall by Los Angeles in 2007. Along with Findley and 2010 first overall selection Danny Mwanga, Ryan Johnson went 26th to Real Salt Lake in 2006 while Alan Gordon was drafted 53rd by Los Angeles in 2004.
Joining the list of MLS players from Oregon State are goalkeeper Steve Spangler (Sporting KC) and Bryan Jordan (LA Galaxy), who starred for the Beavers from 2003-06.
