Game Day Rundown: Softball Opens Cal Series Today
April 19, 2013
This Weekend: Oregon State heads to Berkeley for a weekend date with 10th-ranked California. Cal comes into the series with a 7-5 Pac-12 record, four games ahead of the Beavers in the conference standings. Saturday’s game, originally listed at 3:00 p.m., has been moved up to a 1:00 p.m. start.

Last Time Out: The Beavers took two of three from Utah, including their first Pac-12 mercy rule win in five years Sunday. Oregon State’s offense was led by second baseman Tina Andreana retired 13 consecutive batters at one point Sunday on her way to a two-hitter.
Garcia Stays Red Hot: Second baseman Ya Garcia was nearly perfect at the plate last weekend against Utah, hitting .875 (7-for-8) in the three games. She had multi-hit games in all three. Garcia is now hitting a team-best .464 in Pac-12 play and .643 in her past five games. She also leads the team with a .379 overall average and a .468 on-base percentage.
Cavestany Not Far Behind: Senior outfielder Lea Cavestany didn’t hit quite as well as Garcia against Utah, but she did put up an equally ridiculous .778 (7-for-9) average. Cavestany also did her part to add runs to the scoreboard. She had a team-leading six RBIs while adding a double and her first triple since her freshman season.
Don’t Forget Us: Sophomore Dani Gilmore (.556) and senior Desiree Beltran (.444) each had outstanding weekends at the plate and were major contributors to the Beavers’ .405 team batting average. Gilmore hit one of Oregon State’s three home runs this weekends, a towering shot to right to open the bottom of the first on Friday. Beltran had a double and an RBI as part of her four hits in nine at-bats.
Hampton Climbs the Charts: Freshman first baseman Cambria Miranda in 2006.
Andreana Silences the Utes: Oregon State senior pitcher Tina Andreana gave up two runs on two hits in the top of the first Sunday. Hopefully the Utes enjoyed the view from the basepaths, because they didn’t have many more chances following that frame. Andreana retired 13 consecutive hitters and didn’t allow another baserunner until a hit batter in the fifth.
California Dreamin’: This is the Beavers’ final trip to California this regular season, and Oregon State has taken full advantage of its time there in 2013. OSU is 14-2 so far this season in California, hitting .345 as a team compared to a .206 average by their opponents. Shortstop Tina Andreana is 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA.
