Beavers Raise Money For Red Cross At 'The Other Side' Talent Show
April 18, 2013
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State student-athletes showcased their talents on the stage rather than on the field of play on Tuesday night in the 10th Annual `The Other Side' Talent Show and Silent Auction.
Every team was represented and nearly $1,000 was raised through donations and the auction to support the Red Cross' Boston Marathon relief efforts, Crestline Elementary School and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) sponsored activities. Additional donations of school supplies will also benefit Crestline.
The evening was emceed by men's soccer player Josh Smith and OSU gymnast Hannah Casey. Judges included Oregon State head football coach Mike Riley and his wife, Dee, strength and conditioning's Mark Philipp and All-American cornerback Jordan Poyer.
The OSU track and field team took home first place with a well-choreographed routine to Michael Jackson's classic "Thriller". Other performances included a duet from men's soccer's Andrew Glaeser and track and field's Kelsi Schaer, a covering of "Hey Joe" on electric and acoustic guitar by the wrestling team and various other dance and comedy routines.
The Talent Show was established by former SAAC President Courtney Carter in memory of two student athletes on our men's soccer team who passed away unexpectedly in 2002: Stephen Hensor and Joe Zaher.
