Spring Football Day 9 -- A Glimpse of the Running Backs
April 16, 2013
Corvallis, Ore. -
Somehow, the initial play of the third set of downs in the first scrimmage last Friday was a sign. A sign that it's not all about the quarterbacks on offense, but more that the Beavers will be much more of a threat this season on the ground. That sign was sophomore running back Storm Woods racing 80 yards for a touchdown behind the blocking of the offensive line.
As it is, the Beavers have 74 percent of their rushing yards back from last season, including Woods' 940. It's not all Woods though as junior Terron Ward came on the latter half of last year, including a pair of games where he rushed for over 100 yards in victories over Arizona State and California.
As spring progresses running backs coach Chris Brasfield is anxiously watching redshirt-freshman Chris Brown. Brown was impressive last season on scout teams and gives the Beavers yet another weapon in the backfield with his shifty running. No matter who has the ball, they should be blessed to be running behind an experienced offensive line.
The running backs position looks to be a solid strength for the 2013 team and the OSU video team produced the embedded video from a recent practice, including great audio from Ward.
The Beavers will be back on the practice field Tuesday at 11 a.m., when the quarterbacks are featured.
Remember to be a part of this spring's Beaver Road Shows; this year in Seattle, Bend, Portland, Eugene and San Francisco. More details here. Also, OSU Athletics is hosting a StartUp Weekend in May.
The Beavers open the 2013 season Aug. 31 at home against Football Championship Series power Eastern Washington at Reser Stadium and also hosts Hawai'i, Stanford, USC, Washington and Colorado.
