PERSONAL—Born 9/28/81 at Provo, UT...son of Dan Southwick and Shawn King...his father is self-employed...his mother is now married to Larry King, prominent radio and TV personaltity...he has two sisters, Chance, 4, and Cannon, 2...he is in the College of Business and is a business administration major...he is a die hard Utah Jazz fan...Michael Jordan is his favorite athlete...his top athletic thrill as a prep athlete was when he directed his Timpview High School team to a comeback victory over Mountain Crests High School in the playoffs by scoring 21 points in the final six minutes of the game...selected OSU because, “of the football program and scheme fit by abilities very well.”
OSU—(2003—Freshman)—Danny enrolled at Oregon State during spring quarter and participated in spring football...he immediately joined the contest for the backup spot behind Derek Anderson...he engaged in a battle for the No. 2 spot with junior Adam Rothenfluh and redshirt freshman Anton Clarkson...Danny had an outstanding performance in the first spring scrimmage and fell off in the second...during the Spring Game, Danny was 0-for-5 passing for the winning Black squad and was sacked four times...he has good arm strength and good scrambling ability...he made strides during the spring and he will report for the start of fall camp as OSU’s No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart...Danny is a true freshman and does have a redshirt year available...Danny did not participate in the winter conditioning program and does not have any weightlifting marks registered...he has a vertical jump best of 31 inches and has been timed by OSU at 4.72 in the 40.
TIMPVIEW HIGH SCHOOL, Provo, Utah--Danny originally signed a letter of intent with Brigham Young in February of 2000...however, Danny elected to take his two-year Mormon Mission following graduation from Timpview High School and did not attend BYU...he elected to sign a letter of intent with Oregon State upon returning from his Mission...as a senior, he passed for 2,984 yards and 27 touchdowns in 10 games (7-3 record)...completed 175 of 325 passes (.538 percentage) and threw only 10 interceptions...his passing yardage of 2,984 yards as a senior was a state record...as a junior, he completed 117 of 227 passes (.515 percentage) for 1,814 yards, 14 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in nine games...all told, he completed 292 of 552 passes (.529 percentage) for 4,798 yards, 41 touchdowns and 22 interceptions...as a senior, he passed for over 300 yards five times and over 200 yards in all 10 games...his best game was against Springville High School when he passed for 415 yards and four touchdowns, while completing 18 of 32 passes...threw four TD passes in three different games...selected first-team all-state, first-team all-region and first-team all-valley as a senior...he was a third-team All-State pick as a junior...earned three letters in football and was a two-year starter...as a junior, he set a school game record for percentage by completing 10 of 12 passes (.833) for 176 yards and four touchdowns...his best overall game was against Spanish Fork High School when he completed 19 of 37 passes for 371 yards and four touchdowns...earned a two-star rating by PacWestFootball.com...timed in the 40 at 4.65...played for Coach Chad VanOrden at Timpview.
