PERSONAL--Born 6/30/82 at El Centro, CA...son of Gary Williams and Sherree Havens-Williams...his father is a construction supervisor and his mother works for the school district...has one older sister, Stacy, 19...he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a liberal studies major…enjoys all sports...Michael Jordan and Mike Alstott are his favorite athletes...playing in the CIF football semifinals for two straight years was his top athletic thrill as a prep...selected OSU because, “I felt comfortable in and around campus and OSU is in the Pac-10.”
OSU—(2001—Freshman Redshirt)—Mike spent the 2000 season as a redshirt and the year was very beneficial for him as he was able to add weight and strength…he arrived at OSU at 235 pounds and is now at 271…he could possibly still be a year away from gaining playing time…made progress during spring drills…when he returns for the start of fall camp, Mike will be listed No. 4 on the depth chart at left tackle…during the winter weightlifting, Mike posted a squat best of 450 pounds and a bench press best of 245 pounds.
(2000-Freshman)--Mike spent the 2000 season as a redshirt defensive lineman and he performed the entire season on the scout squad.
LA QUINTA HIGH SCHOOL, La Quinta, CA--(1997-00)--Played for Coach Dan Armstrong and the La Quinta Blackhawks...also recruited by Fresno State, Vanderbilt, San Diego State and Arizona...ran 4.7 in 40...selected by PrepStar Magazine as an honorable mention All-American...suffered a broken foot his senior year and missed the first eight games of the season and played the final five games of the season as a tight end and defensive end on a team that finished 11-2 and reached the semifinals of the CIF playoffs...he caught 3 passes for 112 yards and 1 touchdown as a senior, plus he recorded 22 tackles, 3 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries on defense...as a junior, he caught 16 passes for 287 yards (17.9 average) and 3 touchdowns on a team that finished 10-3...on defense, as a part-time starter, he had 29 tackles, 4 sacks, 2 fumble recoveries and a pass interception...he earned second-team all-league (Desert Valley) honors as a junior tight end...he was also the starting center on the basketball team, averaging 13 points and 13 rebounds a game...he was the sixth player as a sophomore and a two-year starter at center as a junior and senior...he also earned two letters in track and field as a high jumper (6-6) and an intermediate hurdler...produced weightlifting bests of 440 in the squat, 265 in the bench press and 205 in the power clean... “Every school in the Pac-10 was recruiting Mike after his junior year and some schools backed off after he broke his foot as a senior,” said Coach Armstrong. “He has a big frame with wide shoulders and long arms. He has speed is outstanding for his size. I think his up side is very big on either side of the ball,” Armstrong said.
