PERSONAL—(Pronounced Co-ZET-oh) Born 4/26/83 in Moscow, ID…son of Dan and Colleen Cozzetto…his father is an assistant football coach at Oregon State and his mother is a teacher…he has a younger sister, Tara, 14…he is in the College of Business and is a business administration major…entered OSU with a 3.4 GPA out of Mountain Pointe High School…his favorite athlete is Jake Plummer…his top prep athletic thrill was signing a letter of intent to play football at Oregon State…he selected OSU because, “family and good football team.”
OSU—(2002—Freshman Redshirt)—Ryan had surgery on February 1, 2002 to repair a compression fracture in his right knee...as a result of his surgery, Ryan was held out of all contact drills during the spring and participated as a punter only in the final week of spring drills...he is expected to be at full strength when fall camp starts and he will be listed at No. 3 on the depth chart at free safety for the start of fall camp...he will also compete as a punter...he was limited on what he could do during winter conditioning...he produced a bench press mark of 305 pounds and had a vertical jump best of 27 inches.
(2001—Freshman)— He reported to Oregon State for the start of fall camp on August 6 and spent the 2001 season as a redshirt free safety...because of knee surgery following his senior year in high school, he did not participate as a punter.
MOUNTAIN POINTE HIGH SCHOOL, Phoenix, AZ—Son of Oregon State running backs coach Dan Cozzetto…selected to PrepStar Magazine’s Western All-Region squad as a punter…first team all-state punter and free safety in Arizona…ranked 15th best punter in the nation by Rivals.com…a preseason all-region selection by Super Prep Magazine as a punter…also recruited by Arizona State, Arizona, UCLA, Stanford and USC…Ryan was a preseason Western All-Region selection by Prep Star Magazine as a punter…he averaged 41.9 yards per punt as a junior and 40.3 as a senior on 43 attempts, including a long punt of 65 yards…he played quarterback and free safety as a sophomore, junior and senior…he passed for 400 yards and two touchdowns as a sophomore…threw for over 600 yards and 4 touchdowns as a junior, while completing 42 of 106 passes…he was selected second-team All-State and all-city as a punter and was honorable mention all-city at quarterback and free safety following his junior year…following his senior season, he was selected first-team all-city as a free safety, first-team all-region as a defensive back and punter, all-area and All-East Valley as a punter and second-team All-State as a punter…Mountain Pointe finished 5-5 his senior year and 9-2 and third in the State of Arizona (5A) during his junior season…he completed 64 of 155 passes for 1,160 yards and nine touchdowns, with only three interceptions, his senior year…he set a single-game passing record of 223 yards and four touchdowns against Corona Del Sol High School his senior year…he also kicked field goals and PATs as a senior…he was successful on 4 of 8 field goal attempts with a long of 46 yards…he connected on 16 of 19 PAT attempts…played for Coach Karl Kiefer at Mountain Pointe… “Ryan is a very intense, dedicated player,” said Kiefer. “He is a multiple purpose player who never came off the field. He was a great hitter on defense and an outstanding team leader. He is the best punter in the country in my estimation, and the fact he played quarterback for us makes him very dangerous as a punter if you want to run a fake.”…Ryan also earned letters in baseball as a freshman and sophomore and in track and field as a sprinter his final two years…ran the 40 in 4.6 in high school.
