PERSONAL—Born 12/21/82 in St. Joseph, MO…son of Richard Brown and Nancy Nichols…his father is a juvenile probation supervisor and his mother is a field service rep…he has one brother, Gregory Nichols, 27, and a sister, ReAnna Nichols, 23…he is in the College of Liberal Arts and is a pre-communication major...enjoys music, games and football…Randy Moss is his favorite athlete…his top prep athletic thrill was breaking two records as a sophomore at Maryvale High School…selected OSU because, “coaching staff.”
OSU—(2003—Sophomore)—Travis got his feet wet as a redshirt freshman in 2002...he saw limited action as a backup wide receiver...he played mostly on special teams...Travis saw his stock rise during spring drills...he proved to be a consistent receiver...he has enough speed to be a deep threat and he consistently made catches over the middle during drills...he caught two passes for 12 yards for the winning Black squad during the Spring Game...he will return to fall camp listed as the No. 2 slot receiver behind Kenny Farley...he has posted weightlifting bests of 415 in the back squat, 260 in the bench press, 259 in the power clean and 264.6 in the push press...he has recorded an impressive vertical jump of 35 inches.
(2002—Freshman Redshirt)—Travis played in a total of eight games as a redshirt freshman in 2002...he played mostly on special teams...he did not have a reception as a backup wide receiver...he entered spring drills listed No. 3 as a slot receiver...he returned for the start of fall camp listed as the No. 3 slot receiver, behind Cole Clasen and Kenny Farley...Travis, who has breakaway speed, also worked as a punt returner during the spring and was on the depth chart as a backup punt returner...in the spring scrimmages, Travis caught a pair of passes in the first scrimmage and caught two passes for 10 yards, including a 7-yard TD pass, for the winning Black squad in the Spring Game...during winter conditioning, Travis posted weightlifting bests of 385 in the back squat, 250 in the bench press, 237 in the power clean and 265 in the push press...his top vertical jump mark was 35 inches.
(2001-Freshman)—Travis spent the 2001 season as a redshirt wide receiver and performed on the offensive scout team.
MARYVALE HIGH SCHOOL, Phoenix, AZ—Selected as the 14th best player in the State of Arizona by SuperPrep Magazine…rated as the 18th best player in Arizona in SuperPrep Magazine’s 2000 preseason issue…selected as a prep All-American by PrepStar Magazine and as the 10th best athlete (no position) on the West Coast…originally committed to Arizona State…also recruited by Washington, Arizona, Illinois, Missouri, Colorado State and USC…ran 4.40 in 40…he started two ways for three years on three playoff teams…played quarterback, wide receiver and cornerback and returned kicks…he rushed for 437 yards and 7 touchdowns on 75 carries (5.8 average) as a senior…he also threw for 994 yards, completing 63 out of 130 attempts (.485 percentage)…all told, he scored 50 points on 8 touchdowns and a 2-point PAT…he was an all-region punter with 36.4 average on 33 punts (1,201 yards)…his long punt was 62 yards…had 5 interceptions and 37 tackles on defense as a senior…started at quarterback and cornerback for three years…in three years, Travis rushed for 1,499 yards on 230 carries (6.5 average) and scored 19 touchdowns…he passed for 3,176 yards, completing 192 of 366 passes…he passed for 18 touchdowns and had 21 passes intercepted….produced 4,675 career rushing and passing yards…he scored 128 career points on 20 touchdowns and four 2-point PATs…he had a career 36.3 punting average with 62 punts for 2,249 yards…recorded over 3,000 all-purpose yards as a sophomore and junior…his best individual game as a prep was against Red Mountain High School his junior year when he rushed for over 100 yards and passed for 205 yards…35-inch vertical leap…posted weightlifting bests of 230 in the bench press and 410 in the squat following his junior year…selected as a preseason Western All-Region athlete by Prep Star Magazine…played for Coach Tom Bruney at Maryvale.
