PERSONAL—Born 10/3/81 in Salem, OR...son of Greg and Rene Jones...his father is a computer analyst and his mother is a business owner...he has two brothers and a sister, Mitch, 13; Tory, 16; and Lauren, 18...he is in the College of Engineering and he is a pre-industrial engineering major...entered OSU with 3.4 GPA out of South Salem High School...his grandfather, Garth Rouse, and his uncle, Garth Rouse Jr. played football at Oregon State...enjoys competing in track and field...selected OSU because, “it is a good school for athletics and academics.”
OSU—(2002—Sophomore)—Greg, a walk-on, has spent the past two seasons as a member of the defensive scout squad and is still waiting for his first opportunity to get into game for Oregon State...Greg opened spring drills as the No. 4 middle linebacker and will return to fall camp listed No. 5 at middle linebacker...Greg is a dedicated worker, but he faces stiff competition for playing time this fall...during the winter program, Greg posted weightlifting bests of 405 in the back squat, 285 in the bench press, 270 in the power clean and 276 in the push press...his top vertical jump mark was 31 inches.
(2001—Freshman Redshirt)—Greg did not participate in any games during the 2001 season...he spent the entire year playing on the Beavers’ defensive scout team...Greg redshirted as a middle linebacker as a freshman, and he was listed No. 3 on the depth chart at middle linebacker for the start of spring drills…Greg reported for the start of fall camp listed as the No. 3 middle linebacker...in the winter program, Greg posted weightlifting bests of 300 in the bench press, 275.6 in the power clean and 415 in the squat.
(2000-Freshman)—Greg, a walk-on, reported to OSU for the start of fall camp in 2000 and spent the season as a redshirt playing on the scout team.
SOUTH SALEM HIGH SCHOOL—(1997-00)—Greg earned two letters in football and two in track and field for South Salem...played football for Coach Terry Haugen...competed in the javelin and 400 meters in track and field...he was an honorable mention all-league (Valley League) selection at linebacker as a senior.
