PERSONAL—Born 2/23/83 in Los Angeles, CA…Robert Cendro and Betty Cendro are his guardians…Robert was Rodney’s high school football coach and Betty is also a coach…his twin brother, Randy, plays football for Nebraska…he has two other brothers, Marcus Cendro, 15, and Darrell Cambridge, 2…he has one sister, Ronneisha Dixon, 14…entered OSU with a 3.0 GPA out of high school…he is in the College of Home Economics and is a human development and family studies major…enjoys sports and PlayStation…selected OSU because, “it is a great place to be and the players are like a family.”
OSU—(2002—Freshman Redshirt)—After redshirting in 2001, Rodney reported to spring drills listed as the No. 2 right cornerback behind Dennis Weathersby...as a result of spring drills, another redshirt freshman, Jamaal Jackson, moved ahead of Rodney on the depth chart...Rodney will report for fall camp listed No. 3 on the depth chart at right corner...during winter conditioning, Rodney posted weightlifting marks of 315 in the back squat, 285 in the bench press, 265 inthe power clean and 254 in the push press...his top vertical jump mark was 29 inches.
(2001—Freshman)—Rodney spent the 2001 season as a redshirt cornerback and member of the defensive scout squad.
SONORA HIGH SCHOOL, Sonora, CA—Selected as a first-team prep All-American and rated as the 34th best defensive back in the nation by SuperPrep Magazine and 23rd best overall player in California…a preseason All-American selected by PrepStar Magazine…named to PrepStar Magazine’s Super 30 All-Western Region squad as the 25th selection…PrepStar ranked him as the second best defensive back on the West Coast…selected first team all-state by Student Sports Magazine…ranked as the 14th best cornerback in the nation by Rivals.com…ran the 40 in 4.32, which was timed at the NorCal Combine at Stanford University in the summer of 2000…he had a vertical jump of 29.6 inches… his Sonora High School Wildcats were 10-1 his senior year (2000)…he produced 61 solo tackles, 24 assisted tackles, one interception and broke up six passes as a senior…on offense, he rushed for 530 yards on 73 carries (7.3 average) and six touchdowns as a senior, plus he also returned a kickoff (95 yards) and a punt (65 yards) for touchdowns…he caught seven passes, including two for touchdowns, giving him 10 touchdowns in 2000…played tailback and wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense for Coach Robert Cendro…also recruited by Nebraska, UCLA, Washington, USC and Nevada…ran the 100 meters in 10.49 as a junior in high school…ran 21.36 in the 200 meters to place fifth in the state meet…both times set school records…also ran anchor leg on 4X100 and 4X400 meter relay teams and both teams produced school record times of 42.22 and 3:21.44…he returned a kickoff 102 yards for a TD as a junior…had 62 solo tackles, 70 assists, four interceptions and a fumble recovery as a junior and 50 tackles and a lone interception as a freshman…earned all-league, all-area, all-district and second team all-state honors as a junior…he was a three-time all-league (Valley Oak) selection at cornerback…he was a two-time all-district (Stanislaus) selection and a two-time all-area pick by the Stockton Record…he was named the Defensive Player of the Year in the area by the Stockton Record…he was a preseason all-state selection heading into his senior year…he was a three-year starter in football and track and field…“Rodney is the best athlete I have coached in 23 years as a prep coach,” said Cendro. “He has great character and is a solid citizen, in addition to being an extremely gifted athlete.”
