PERSONAL—Born 1/12/85 at Las Vegas, NV...son of Clarence and Jessie Lawson...his father is a CCSD manager and his mother is a manager at Rivera...he has an older brother, Clarence Lawson Jr., 27...undecided on major...enjoys model cars...winning the region football championship against Cheyenne High School was his top athletic thrill as a prep...selected OSU because, “It is a Pac-10 school and one of the best conference’s in the nation.”
OSU—(2003—Freshman)—Gerard will enter OSU for the start of fall camp and compete as a cornerback.
PALO VERDE HIGH SCHOOL, Las Vegas, NV-- Gerard was a three-sport letterman at Palo Verde High School...earned three letters in football, three in basketball and three in track and field...selected second-team All-Sunset Region at cornerback his senior year...selected to play in the Sunset-Sunrise Lion’s All-Star game...Gerard was a three-year starter at cornerback on defense and running back on offense for Coach Darwin Rost...he posted 39 tackles, six pass breakups and four interceptions as a senior...returned two of the interceptions for touchdowns...rushed for 812 yards on 146 carries, an average of 5.6 yards per carry, and 10 touchdowns...caught two passes for 26 yards, including one TD...completed 1 of 2 passes for 10 yards and a touchdown...also returned kicks and had a long return of 60 yards...as a junior, Gerard rushed for 718 yards on 110 carries, an average of 6.5 yards per carry, and scored seven touchdowns...also caught two passes for 25 yards...during his three-year career, Gerard had 93 tackles, 24 pass breakups and 10 interceptions, three of which he returned for touchdowns...played as the sixth and seventh man for three years in basketball...competed on both relay teams in track and field and posted a best of 6-2 in the high jump his junior year...timed at 4.5 electronically in the 40-yard dash...said Coach Rost, “Gerard is a young senior and has a lot of room to grow physically. I think he will get taller and add 10 or 15 pounds. He is a tremendous cover corner and did a great job against the top receivers in our league. The thing about Gerard is that he is a “hitter” as well as a cover corner, and that is a combination you don’t always get. He is also an outstanding student with a 3.5 GPA.”
