Amer Ari Invitational - Final Results
WAIKOLOA, Hawai'i - David Fink shot his third straight round in red figures at the 23rd Annual Amer Ari Invitational to crush his career-best three-round score and finish in a tie for second place for the second consecutive tournament.
Fink fired a 3-under 69 at the par-72, 7,074-yard Waikoloa Kings' Course on Friday and finished the three-day, 54-hole event with a 9-under 68-70-69--207. His previous best three-round score was a 4-under 209 at the Gifford Collegiate where he concluded the 2012 fall season with a tie for second.
Dominic Bozzelli of Auburn took medalist honors with an 11-under 70-68-67--205, while Washington's Trevor Simsby tied Fink for second with a 9-under 72-66-69--207.
Fink a native of Kailua, Hawai'i, didn't have a top-5 finish in his first 22 collegiate events, but he has finished in a tie for second in back-to-back tournaments. This one was extra special, however, because it came in his home state in front of friends and family.
"To do this in front of my family, who came out here the last two years and saw me play horribly, felt really good," Fink said. "When I played junior golf, I always felt like second place was actually the first loser. After the round my mom reminded me that I used to say that after tourneys and we laughed about it.

"I made one mistake today and it cost me. I made some great up and downs early in the round that helped me. It's all about grinding and that's what I did today. But this is all about helping the team. Down the stretch I could have gotten caught up in my game, but all I wanted to do was help the team."
Oregon State concluded its first tournament of the spring in 14th place with a 9-over 289-288-296--873. UCLA and Washington both finished the tournament with a 22-under 842 and advanced to a playoff where the Bruins won to take home the team title.
"We've got work to do in the next 10 days to make sure we are ready for the next event," Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "We need to have a sense of urgency and understand better just really what is at stake."
Matt Rawitzer had another solid round on Friday, finishing with a 1-over 73 that included one birdie, 15 pars and two bogeys, to give him a senior season-best tie for 20th place with a 2-under 73-68-73--214.
"I thought Matt was great," Reehoorn said. "He was able to hold it together after a rough start to the tournament and have a very solid finish."
Senior Nick Sherwood finished in a tie for 80th with a 7-over 74-72-77--223, while senior Nick Chianello wrapped up play in a tie for 102nd with a 13-over 74-78-77--229. Freshman Chris Tedesco saw his first career action as a member of the Beavers' team and finished in a tie for 106th with a 16-over 76-78-78--232.
But the story was Fink, who had six birdies and three bogeys in Friday's final round to finish a tournament in red numbers all three days for the first time in his career.
"David's performance was awesome this week," Reehoorn said. "To finish second in the quality of events we have played back-to-back speaks volumes about the player he is becoming."
Fink's 9-under 207 equals the sixth-lowest three-round score in school history and puts him in an elite list of former Oregon State golfers.
