Laura Carlyle's Outstanding OSU Career Ends at NCAAs

June 7, 2012
Des Moines, Iowa -
Senior distance runner Laura Carlyle concluded her Oregon State career Thursday by finishing 22nd in the semifinals of the 1,500 meters at the NCAA Track and Field Championships at Drake Stadium.
The Kelowna, B.C. native clocked a time of 4:27.93. She needed to finish in fifth place or higher in her semifinal or have one of the two fastest times outside of fifth place in either heat to advance to the finals.
Carlyle's collegiate career is one of the best in OSU track history as she became the first athlete to qualify for the NCAA Championships since the reintroduction of the program at the university in 2004. She leaves OSU as a 2012 All-American in the indoor 1,500 meters, and holds the school record in the indoor mile and 3,000 meters and the outdoor 1,500 meters and 5,000 meters. She broke the indoor mile school record three separate times and the 1,500 meters once this season.
While Carlyle's collegiate career has come to an end, she hopes to qualify for the Canadian Olympic Team at the country's trials later this month in Calgary.
