Motomochi Named To Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team Once Again

June 7, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State senior men's golfer Jonnie Motomochi earned Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team honors for the third consecutive year, while sophomore David Fink received honorable mention recognition for a second time and junior Matt Rawitzer joined the honorable mention list in his first year with the Beavers, Commissioner Larry Scott announced on Thursday.
Motomochi joins Chris Janson (1996-98), Anthony Arvidson (1999-01), Sean Deacon (2002-04) and Alex Williams (2007-09) as Oregon State men's golfers to be recognized by the conference office three times for academic excellence. Mitch Gillis (2004-07) is the lone Beaver to be honored four times.
An Oregon State men's golfer has earned conference all-academic honors all 17 years since the recognition began in 1996.
Motomochi played in eight of the 12 tournaments this past season and had a scoring average of 73.32, the second best on the team. He played in 35 tournaments in his four-year career with the Beavers and had a career scoring average of 74.00 in 105 rounds. His best round was a 6-under 65 as a junior at the Pacific Invitational, to equal the fourth-lowest round in Oregon State history, and his best finish was a tie for seventh place at that same tournament.
He was named a 2011 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America and recognized as a 2011 Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar.
Fink played in seven tournaments in his sophomore campaign and unfortunately missed five events when he injured his wrist after the first event of the spring season. He finished with a scoring average of 73.45 and shot a career-best 5-under 67 in the second round of The Prestige at PGA West. He was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention Team in his redshirt freshman season.
Rawitzer, who transferred to Oregon State from the University of Idaho last spring, played in eight of the 12 tournaments and had a scoring average of 73.92. He shot under-par in four of his final six rounds of the year, including a career-best 5-under 65 in the second round of the NCAA Stanford Regional, to equal the fifth-lowest round in Oregon State history. He led the team with a 4-under 206 at the NCAA Stanford Regional to finish in a tie for 10th place for first top-10 finish at Oregon State.
In order to be eligible for the Pac-12 All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.0 or better and must be a starter or significant contributor.
