Poyer and Romaine on Preseason Awards Roster
June 26, 2012
Corvallis, Ore. -
Senior Jordan Poyer and sophomore Trevor Romaine have been selected to the 2012 College Football Performance Awards preseason watch lists for punt returners and specialists.
Poyer, a senior from Astoria, is considered one of the top cornerbacks in the nation. He was a Pac-12 Conference Second Team selection last season on defense after making 57 tackles, 12 pass deflections and four interceptions. In addition, he averaged 14.1 yards per punt return last year and set a Reser Stadium record with an 85-yard return for a touchdown against UCLA. He also averaged 22.7 yards on 30 kickoff returns. Poyer, who recently was selected a candidate for the prestigious Lott Trophy, will join senior wide receiver Markus Wheaton as the Beavers’ representatives at Pac-12 Media Day at Universal Studies in Los Angeles in late July.
Romaine, a sophomore from Corona, Calif., was one of eight true-freshmen kickers at the Football Bowl Subdivision level in 2011. He set an OSU record for touchbacks with 10 (from the 30-yard line) and made 15 of 22 field goal attempts. Romaine accounted for 72 points, second among true freshmen kickers, for the season.
The Beavers begin practicing for the 2012 season Aug. 6 with the home opener Sept. 1 vs. Nicholls State at Reser Stadium, before Big Ten Conference foe Wisconsin visits Sept. 8. The season opener will mark the first time OSU will appear on the Pac-12 Networks (to learn more about the Networks and availability follow this link).
