Michael Conforto Picks Up Second All-America Honor

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Oregon State freshman outfielder Michael Conforto added to his growing list of postseason honors Wednesday when he was named a second team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).
It's his second All-America honor following a second-team award by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) last week. Prior to that, he was named the National Freshman Hitter of the Year by both Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball and the NCBWA. He's also the Pac-12 Conference's Freshman of the Year as well as Pac-12 first-team honoree.
Conforto stands as the lone player in the Pac-12 to rank in the top 10 in batting average (seventh, .349), runs batted in (first, 76) and home runs (tied for first, 13). He currently leads the Pac-12 by 13 RBI and should that hold up after the College World Series, Conforto, a native of Woodinville, Wash., would become the first Beaver to lead the league in that category since Jim Wilson paced the Pac-10 North with 62 in 1982.
Additionally, Conforto led the league in home runs (eight) and RBI (36) in conference only games.
Conforto is the Beavers' 21st all-time All-American and the second in as many years after Sam Gaviglio was recognized in 2011. Conforto is the 12th recognized by the ABCA and the first since Cole Gillespie in 2006.
Eleven of the program's 21 All-Americans have played under head coach Pat Casey, who recently finished his 18th season with the Beavers.
