Track Ribbon Cutting Scheduled for September
June 19, 2012
Corvallis, Ore. -
First there was a vision, then a plan and now a reality. Oregon State University Athletics proudly announces a ribbon cutting ceremony signifying the completion of the first phase of the Whyte Track and Field Center on Fri., Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at the facility.
The ceremony is a culmination of the efforts of Beaver Nation to fund the first phase of a three-phase project to rebuild the OSU track and field program that was reintroduced in 2005 after nearly a 17-year hiatus.
"It's amazing to watch the facility grow from an empty lot to an outline of the facility to now a nearly completed track and infield," Beaver head track coach Kelly Sullivan said. "It's going to be an exciting day to see our current team with a lot of former greats who made the facility possible. I want to thank all of the donors who made this day a reality and look forward to continuing the fundraising goal for finishing phases two and three in the future."
Among the many former Beaver track standouts expected to be in attendance include Olympic gold medalist Dick Fosbury, former coaches Berny Wagner, Sam Bell, Chuck McNeil, Steve Simmons and Pat Ingram, and the project's lead benefactor and former student-athlete Jim Whyte.
