Former Beaver Tavita Thompson Returns to Coach

Oregon State University head football coach Mike Riley announced Thursday the appointment of former Beaver Tavita Thompson to a graduate assistant coach position. Thompson will serve on the offensive side of the football.
Thompson lettered at OSU as an offensive lineman from 2005-08 after redshirting as a true-freshman in 2004. The Honolulu native started 13 career games at offensive tackle and was a member of four OSU bowl winning teams.
“We are very fortunate to be able to get Tavita this late in the year to be a part of our staff,” Riley said. “Tavita has shown a great interest in coaching and this will be a natural position for him as he continues in his career path. He is an outstanding addition to our program.”
Thompson fills the void in the staff that was created when former Beaver Kyle DeVan recently signed a NFL free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans. He will officially begin his duties Aug. 1 when NCAA regulations change to allow Football Bowl Subdivision programs to have four graduate assistant coaches. Thompson joins former Beavers Alan Darlin, Trent Bray and Mitch Meeuwsen in GA roles.
The St. Louis High School graduate served as Pacific University’s defensive line coach in 2011. Prior to joining the Boxers’ staff he played one season in the United Football League with Sacramento and in 2009 was with the New York Jets in the preseason. He is a 2008 OSU graduate in human development and family studies.
