Michael Conforto Selected To NCBWA Freshman All-America First Team

LYNCHBURG, Va. - Oregon State outfielder Michael Conforto was named a Freshman All-America First Teamer by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) on Monday.
Conforto's postseason national honor is his second as he was named the Lousiville Slugger Freshman Hitter of the Year last week. Prior to that, he was named the Pac-12's Fresman of the Year and was named to the all-conference first team.
Conforto batted .349 in 58 games this past season, driving in a school record 76 runs. He hit 13 home runs and collected 14 doubles.
His 76 RBI currently lead the Pac-12 Conference and he is 15 ahead of Arizona's Robert Refsnyder, who is second in the league. Conforto's 13 home runs are tied with Arizona State's Abe Ruiz for most in the league and his .601 slugging percentage is tops in the conference.
Should he end the season as the league's leader in RBI, he will be the first Beaver to do so since Jim Wilson led the Pac-10 North with 62 in 1982. He would also become the first Beaver to lead the league (or share for the lead) in home runs since David Schmidt led the Northern Division with 12 in 1996.
The NCBWA will announce its Freshman Hitter and Pitcher of the Year on Tuesday.
