Ryan Gorton Named To John Olerud Two-Way Player Award Watch List

May 6, 2012
LUBBOCK, Texas - Oregon State senior Ryan Gorton is the lone Pac-12 Conference representative on the initial watch list for the 2012 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year award, which was announced Sunday by the College Baseball Hall of Fame.
The award is given to the nation's top player who excels both as a pitcher and a position player. Twenty players were named to the initial watch list.
Gorton, who hails from Tigard, Ore., has seen action as a catcher, designated hitter and relief pitcher for the Beavers in 2012. Offensively, he is batting .309 in 81 at bats, tallying four doubles and 14 RBI while posting a .989 fielding percentage. He has competed in 32 games as a position player.
On the mound, he is 1-1 with a 3.00 earned run average in eight games, throwing a total of nine innings. He has struck out 10 and walked just one in those nine innings of work, which have all come in relief.
The award, named after the former Major Leaguer, will be awarded June 30 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.
Gorton and the Beavers now focus their attention on Oregon for a midweek game Tuesday at PK Park in Eugene. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT.
The game will air on a tape delayed basis on ComcastSportsNet Northwest in the state of Oregon (channel 37 on Comcast). It will air first at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. It will then air at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Wednesday before the final scheduled airing at 11 p.m. on Friday.
