Last Game
Jace Fry held Stanford to five hits and two runs in a complete-game effort and the Beavers took the second game of the series, 4-2, Saturday at Goss Stadium. Fry improved to 4-1 at Goss Stadium this season after his 123-pitch outing, which saw him hold the Cardinal scoreless through 8 1/3 innings. Ryan Barnes homered to lead off the game for the Beavers, and Jake Rodriguez drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. OSU tallied two more runs in the seventh on a Stanford throwing error, which served as insurance runs.
Matthews With A Big Day
Joey Matthews doubled his Pac-12 hit total with three hits in four at bats on Saturday. The junior now has two three-hit games this season and four multiple-hit efforts overall.
Fry Continues Staff’s Success
They say there’s no place like home and that couldn’t be any truer for the Beavers. OSU’s pitching staff has a 2.36 earned run average in games played at Goss Stadium. The Beavers are 13-6 at home and OSU opponents are batting just .228. Jace Fry has a team-leading four wins at Goss in 2012.
Evening Up Against Stanford
Oregon State head coach Pat Casey has a chance to get his record to .500 against the Cardinal. He is 21-22 all-time against Stanford. OSU, as a team, is 15-14 all-time in the series in Corvallis and 29-43 overall.
Offense Early
Oregon State has scored first in its last eight games. The Beavers are 5-3 over that stretch and on the year, are 21-7 this season when scoring first. They’re 9-4 at home.
Run Amounts Are Key
Naturally, the Beavers have been successful this season when limiting their runs allowed. OSU’s opponents are 0-13 when scoring two runs or less in a game. Conversely, the Beavers are 0-10 when failing to score more than two runs. When they do score more than two? OSU is 29-5.
Singles
• Oregon State’s win Saturday snapped the Beavers’ losing streak at six games in games played in Corvallis against the Cardinal. That was Stanford’s longest win streak in Corvallis.
• OSU saw a season-high attendance of 2,719 on Saturday. The Beavers are averaging 1,635 fans per 19 home dates this season.
• The Beavers are looking for their first home series win versus Stanford since 2006.
