Tyler Smith Named To Brooks Wallace Award Watch List

LUBBOCK, Texas - Oregon State junior Tyler Smith has been named to the initial watch list for the 2012 Brooks Wallace Award, which is given annually to the nation's top shortstop.
Smith is one of 50 players on the initial watch list, with seven hailing from Pac-12 Conference schools, which is tied for the most of any league with the Southeastern Conference.
Smith, a native of Thousand Oaks, Calif., leads Oregon State and is second in the Pac-12 with a .384 batting average. He has nine doubles, a triple, one home run and 29 runs batted in on the year.
He has hit safely in 29 of 40 games played (.725) and leads the club with 17 multiple-hit games. Oregon State is 21-8 (.724) when he records at least one hit. Smith's 14-game hit streak through mid-April is the longest by an OSU player this season.
In league play, he's batting .379 with four doubles and 11 RBI.
He's made 27 of his 40 starts at short this season, including 23 in the team's last 26 games. Smith has also made six starts at second base, three in right field and one in center.
The award, named after the former Major Leaguer, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be awarded June 30 as part of the College Baseball Hall of Fame's Night of Champions.
Smith and the Beavers turn their sights to No. 12 Stanford this weekend as the clubs are scheduled to open their three-game series Friday night at 5:35 p.m. PT.
Limited tickets are available for Friday and Sunday's games. Saturday is sold out but a few tickets may be released on game day dependent on any returned tickets.
Tickets can be purchased by calling 1-800-GOBEAVS, going to osubeavers.com or in person at the Gill Coliseum ticket office. Fans may also purchase tickets at the Goss Stadium ticket office, which opens two hours before first pitch each day.
Student tickets will be distributed an hour before each day's first pitch.
Reserved seats at $20 while outfield bleachers are $10.
Saturday's 1:05 p.m. start will be the third home television broadcast for the Beavers this season. Fans in the Eugene/Corvallis region can find the game live on KEZI 9.2 over the air (channel 309 digitally) and those throughout the rest of the Pacific Northwest can watch the game on ROOT Sports.
Fans across the nation can also catch the action on Fox College Sports Pacific (FCS Pacific, channel 415 on Comcast).
The broadcast will also be streamed on Beaver Nation Online (osubeavers.com). Each of the series' three games can be found on BNO for a fee.
