Baseball Headed To Baton Rouge Regional
May 28, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State baseball team will be making a program-record fourth consecutive postseason appearance when it heads to the Baton Rouge Regional as announced by the NCAA on ESPNU Monday morning.
The Beavers will be the No. 2 seed at the regional, which is hosted by LSU (Southeastern Conference). The Tigers are the No. 1 seed.
Oregon State will open the regional against No. 3 Belmont (Atlantic Sun Conference) while LSU takes on No. 4 Louisiana-Monroe (Sun Belt Conference).
LSU is the No. 7 national seed.
The Beavers are advancing to their seventh postseason under head coach Pat Casey and 13th all-time in the program's history. OSU is 38-24 (.619) all-time in the postseason and 21-15 (.583) in Regional games.
Casey owns 87 percent (33) of the Beavers' all-time victories and the club is 16-5 (.761) in regional games with him at the helm.
The four straight trips - 2009, 2010, 2011 and now 2012 - snaps the previous record of three from 2005-07. The Beavers advanced to the College World Series in each of those three years.
Oregon State advances to the 2012 postseason with a 38-18 overall record after sweeping No. 5 Oregon this past weekend. The three victories put OSU's Pac-12 Conference record at 18-12, which tied Arizona State and Stanford for fourth, just two games behind co-champions Arizona and UCLA.
The Beavers' 38 wins equals the 2011 club's regular season victory total.
Oregon State has never met LSU, Belmont nor Louisiana-Monroe.
LSU enters the regional with a 43-16 overall record and finished first in the SEC's Western Division with a 19-11 record.
Belmont finished first in the Atlantic Sun this season with a 17-10 league record. The club finished the season 39-22 overall.
Louisiana-Monroe, the No. 4 seed, takes a 31-28 record into the regional and finished fourth in the Sun Belt this season with a 15-15 league mark.
Game times and dates for the regional are expected to be announced later on Monday. The games will be held at Alex Box Stadium.
