Becky Defoe to Compete for USA Team

May 24, 2012
Corvallis, Ore. -
Oregon State University junior volleyball student-athlete Becky Defoe of Bend, Ore., has been invited to participate in the U.S. Women’s National A2 Team Program. Defoe is one of eight liberos and 48 student-athletes overall from across the country that have been selected to participate in the event.
“Becky’s selection to the USA A2 Team is a great honor for her and for the OSU program,” Beaver head coach Taras Liskevych said. “She has worked extremely hard to hone all of her back-court skills while becoming both one of our hardest workers and toughest competitors on the team. Becky, who did not play junior club volleyball, has had a remarkable journey in the last two years becoming one of the best liberos in the Pac-12 Conference.”
Defoe, a graduate of Summit High School, broke the OSU record for single season digs last season with 555. She was selected as the top libero at the Long Beach State Baden Classic.
Training for the national team program begins June 26 at Ohio Dominican University in Columbus, with matches being held June 30-July 4 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center.
The Beavers open the 2012 season with 12 returning letterwinners when they take to the court August 24 at a tournament being hosted by Kansas State University.
