WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -
Oregon State rower Anna Taylor has been named to the 2012 Division I West All-Region Team, the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced Tuesday. The awards recognize the outstanding performances of rowers and coxswains.
Taylor, a sophomore from Taupo, New Zealand, received first team all-region recognition after helping one of the fastest Varsity 8 boats in school history in strong performances against some of the best crews in the country like Ohio State and Washington State and to a second place finish at the prestigious San Diego Crew Classic. Making her performance even more impressive is that she returned from a battle with cancer as freshman in 2010-11 - read more here.
Taylor's selection to the all-region team is the first since Ame Hicks (first team), Katie Humm (second team) and Jenny Kossowsky (first team) made the all-region squad in 2009.
Nominated student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter ergometer score. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their teams' varsity boat in 75-percent of races this season.
These athletes will be eligible for All-America awards selection following the NCAA Rowing Championships.
