Last Game
PJ Jones hit a two-out grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to send Washington State to a 9-5 win over the 23rd-ranked Oregon State baseball team Saturday at Bailey-Brayton Field. Washington State loaded the bases on an intentional walk to Taylor Ard and OSU reliever Matt Boyd got Derek Jones to foul out to third for the second out of the inning. Jones hit a 1-0 pitch from Boyd over the left center fence to win the game. Tyler Smith had tied the game for the Beavers in the ninth on a two-out double down the left field line.
Hayes, Again
Danny Hayes moved his hit streak to seven games with a 3-for-4 effort against the Cougars Friday. He hit a home run for the second consecutive game and drove in three. Hayes has nine RBI and is 15-for-22 (.681) during his hit streak.
Top Of The Lineup
The top five batters in the Beavers’ lineup Saturday - consisting of Ryan Barnes, Tyler Smith, Michael Conforto, Danny Hayes and Ryan Dunn - combined to go 7-for-19 with four runs and four RBI.
Casey Going For 613
Pat Casey picked up win No. 612 on Friday and can tie Jack Riley for the most wins in an OSU uniform with a victory Sunday. Casey has a 612-374-4 (.620) record in 18 seasons at Oregon State.
Going For The Series Win
The Beavers are going for the series victory on Sunday and a win would put the Beavers at 6-3 in Pac-12 series this season. Oregon State was 7-2 in Pac-10 series when finishing in a tie for second in 2011.
This Time Last Year
The Beavers are relatively close to the same pace as last season’s club, which finished the regular season with 38 wins and totaled 41 after winning the Corvallis Regional. OSU needs a win Sunday to remain three games shy of last season’s club. OSU already has more wins than the 2010 club which finished with 32 overall.
Singles
• Oregon State is 10-2 on Sundays this season and 5-1 in games played away from Goss Stadium.
• OSU is looking for its first series win in Pullman since sweeping in 2006. The Beavers were 1-2 in both 2008 and 2010.
• The Beavers are 9-5 this season when Dan Child starts a game this season.
