Last Game
Michael Conforto hit two home runs in a game for the second time this season to power 23rd-ranked Oregon State to an 11-10 series-opening win over Utah Friday. Conforto hit a two-run shot in the first and a three-run home run in the fourth to give him 10 on the season. Conforto’s last two home run game was also his last game with a round-tripper – April 10 at Nevada. Utah, down 9-0 after three-and-a-half innings, scored 10 of the game’s last 12 runs to pull within two in the eighth.
Big Offensive Day
Oregon State and Utah combined for 33 hits in Friday’s game, the most between the Beavers and their opponents this season. The 18 hits allowed by Oregon State were the most by an OSU opponent. The three OSU hits were just shy of a team best.
Conforto’s Big Day
Michael Conforto had his second two-home run game of the season on Friday and is tied for the Pac-12 lead with 10 this season. His two home runs led to five RBI which gives his 60 this season. His total is the fifth-best mark in OSU single-season and places him eight shy of setting a new mark.
Batting Around
Both teams sent at least nine to the plate in one inning on Friday; that’s a first for an OSU game this season. The Beavers sent 11 to the plate in the first; OSU last did so against a Pac-12 school in the series finale at Cal.
Quality Starts Note
Oregon State’s starting staff of Ben Wetzler, Jace Fry and Dan Child have been solid in Pac-12 play this season. The trio has combined for 15 quality starts in 23 games during Pac-12 play. That’s better than 65 percent.
Singles
• Oregon State head coach Pat Casey has 609 wins and needs four to tie Jack Riley for the most with the Beavers.
• The Beavers are 10-7 in Saturday games this season and 5-4 in games played away from Goss Stadium.
• The Beavers won their first game Friday when allowing 10 or more runs. OSU is 1-3 in such games this season.
• Jace Fry, Saturday’s starter, thrown six straight quality starts.
• Tyler Smith tallied his team-best 18th multi-hit game on Friday. Michael Conforto also had one, his 15th.
• OSU is 7-7 in one-run games.
