PERSONAL--Born in Columbus, Ohio...daughter of Richard and Karen Petrie...her father is vice-president for marketing for Orange Plastics and her mother is a housewife...family includes brother Ryan, 14, and sister Allison, 15...Tara enters OSU with a 3.4 GPA out of Pickerington High School...enjoys water skiing and soccer...member of high school honor roll during her senior year...Tara made a verbal commitment to Oregon State in February of 1998 and didn’t want to take any other official visits, but took many unofficial visits...selected OSU because, "The coaching staff...great group of coaches...energetic, positive and uplifting, determined. Academics, nice campus, rebuilding program that needed a point guard."

OSU--(1999-00--Freshman)--Tara will be competing for playing time at point guard when she joins the Beavers for the start of fall practice in October.
PICKERINGTON HIGH SCHOOL, Pickerington, Ohio--Tara earned three letters for Pickerington High School while playing for Coach Dave Butcher...she would have earned four but suffered a knee injury that required surgery in November of 1998, just prior to the start of her senior season...as a result of the surgery, Tara missed the entire regular season...however, she was so highly thought of that she was selected to play in the Ohio-West Virginia All-Star game in June, just 10 days after being cleared to play...in the two-game series, Tara scored 14 points in each game and averaged 7 assists...heading into her senior year, Tara was selected by Women’s Basketball News Service as a preseason All-American (fourth team)...Athlon Magazine ranked her 10th nationally among junior players following the 1997-98 season and then moved her up to #7 among senior prospects heading into the 1998-99 season...Tara was a sixth team All-America pick following her junior season by Women’s Basketball News Service...Tara was a part-time starter as a freshman and sophomore and a full-time starter as a junior...during her three-year career at Pickerington, Tara averaged 6.0 points a game, 7.0 assists, 4.0 steals and shot over 70 percent from the free throw line...Pickerington won the Ohio Division I championship her junior year and was ranked #4 in the nation by USA Today her senior year...Pickerington was ranked nationally by USA Today all four years that she competed...Tara served as team captain her senior year even though she was injured...Tara was an honorable mention all-league Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) selection as a sophomore and a second-team pick as a junior...Tara lettered one year (freshman) in soccer as a midfield player.
