Last Game
Arizona State’s five-run eighth overcame a late Oregon State lead as the Sun Devils took Saturday’s series finale, 5-1, at Packard Stadium to earn a series sweep. The Beavers took a 1-0 lead into the eighth courtesy of a Jake Rodriguez run-scoring single in the fourth. But the Sun Devils tied the game on a bloop single to center by Abe Ruiz, then took the lead when James McDonald singled up the middle. Max Rossiter capped off the inning with a three-run home run off reliever Cole Brocker. Four of the runs in Arizona State’s eighth inning came with two outs.
Hello Nevada
The Beavers are making their first trip to Reno since the 2008 season when splitting two games against the Wolfpack. John Tommasini is the only current player who has squared off against Nevada, going 0-for-2 with a walk. Pat Casey is 8-1 lifetime against Nevada.
Back To Non-Conference Play
The Beavers are 12-5 against non-conference opponents this season and have a .295 team batting average in such games. OSU’s staff ERA is 4.16 in 149 1/3 innings.
Beaver Individuals
Six different Beavers have at least 45 at bats and a batting average of .300 or better in non-conference play this season. They’re led by Tyler Smith, who is hitting .435 with four doubles and 13 RBI and Michael Conforto, who has 20 RBI, three home runs and a .431 average.
Streaks
Three Beavers now have hit streaks of 10 games or more - Ryan Dunn (12), Tyler Smith (11) and Michael Conforto (10). Smith’s is current, as are Jake Rodriguez and Max Gordon, who are both on four gamers.
