Last Game
Arizona State scored three runs with two outs in the fifth and despite a late rally, the Beavers dropped a 3-2 decision to the Sun Devils on Friday night. Michael Conforto drove in two with a single in the eighth but the Beavers went down 1-2-3 in the ninth in the loss. Deven Marrero drove in the game’s first two runs in the fifth with a triple, then scored when Joey DeMichele singled through the right side. Ben Wetzler took the loss to drop to 4-1 in 2012.
Conforto, Smith Keep It Up
Seems like this is becoming a daily note. Both Michael Conforto and Tyler Smith extended their hit streaks to 10 games in the loss Friday. They join Ryan Dunn (12 games) as Beavers with double-figure hit streaks in 2012.
Conforto Again
Michael Conforto drove in two Friday, giving him 12 multi-RBI games this season; he has driven in 36 overall. Last season’s team leader, Parker Berberet, had 39 RBI and 11 multiple-RBI efforts.
Bullpen Sharp
The Oregon State bullpen has been sharp in the month of April. OSU’s relievers have combined to allow three earned runs in 15 2/3 innings (1.72) during the team’s four games in the month.
Kavin Keyes Note
Kavin Keyes made his first career start at first base on Friday and became the fifth Beaver to man the position this season, and the third to start there. Keyes was credited with seven putouts and one assist.
Fielding
The Beavers did not commit an error Friday and are now 4-2 this season when doing so. Oregon State has an overall fielding percentage of .968 and that betters to .974 during Pac-12 Conference play.
Singles
• Oregon State is 3-5 in one-run games this season and 0-5 when scoring two runs or less.
• The Beavers have just nine sacrifice bunts over their last nine games after tallying 13 in the three-game series against California.
• Oregon State batters have walked just twice over the last two games; that’s the lowest tally in consecutive games this season.
• OSU is 6-5 in Saturday games this season. The Beavers, expected to wear orange Saturday, are 4-0 in those uniforms in 2012.
