Last Game
The Beavers dropped an 8-2 decision to the Sun Devils in Thursday night’s opener. Jake Rodriguez led OSU with two hits and an RBI while both Tyler Smith and Michael Conforto extended their season-long hit streaks to nine games in the loss. Dan Child started and took the loss - his first since February - after giving up nine hits and five runs in six innings of work. Brady Rodgers started and earned the win for Arizona State, throwing eight innings in the process.
Wetzler Going For Win No. 5
Ben Wetzler is going for his fifth win of the season, which would put him one shy of tying his total from the 2011 season. Wetzler has been given no-decisions in his last two starts despite allowing just two earned runs and seven hits in 14 2/3 over that span. That’s an ERA of 1.23.
Rodriguez Note
Jake Rodriguez had his seventh multiple-hit game of the season on Thursday after going 2-for-4 against the Sun Devils. It was his first multi-hit game since collecting two against California on March 17.
Unofficial RPI
According to boydsworld.com, the Beavers’ unofficial RPI stands at 26 entering Friday’s game, while Arizona State is at 45. OSU’s strength of schedule is No. 12, jumping five spots after playing one game against the Sun Devils.
Big Six
The Beavers collected two runs in the sixth Thursday and have now outscored opponents in that frame 26-9. Opponents have only outscored the Beavers in two innings this season - the first and the ninth.
League Notes
Tyler Smith comes into Friday’s game leading the Pac-12 with a .453 batting average. He also leads on on-base percentage at .515. Michael Conforto, meanwhile, is tied for the league lead with 34 runs batted in.
