Mandi Rodriguez Awarded NCAA Ethnic Minority Postgraduate Scholarship

CORVALLIS, Ore. -
Former Oregon State gymnast and current volunteer coach Mandi Rodriguez has been awarded an NCAA Ethnic Minority Enhancement Program Postgraduate Scholarship for Careers in Athletics.
As a recipient of the scholarship, Rodriguez will receive a $6,000 award to be used during the 2012-13 academic year. The award must be used for a graduate degree in a sports-related program as a full-time graduate student.
Rodriguez will also have the opportunity to attend the 2012 NCAA Career in Sports Forum taking place in Indianapolis, Ind. in June. The forum is a four-day event through which selected student-athletes will explore and be educated on careers in sports, with a primary focus on intercollegiate athletics.
Through the use of dual tracks, forum participants will examine the key functions of a coach or administrator within sports. Foundational skills such as communication, networking, recruiting, managing culture, transitioning and budgeting will be covered with the participants.
In addition, Rodriguez recently been accepted for admission into Oregon State’s School of Biological and Population Health Sciences of the Exercise and Sport Science graduate program. Rodriguez will pursue her master’s in sport psychology while also working as a graduate assistant in OSU’s office of Academics for Student-Athletes.
Last spring, Rodriguez was also a recipient of a Pac-10 Postgraduate Scholarship Program, when she was selected by the Conference for a $3,000 scholarship
Rodriguez, who was a seven-time All-American at Oregon State from 2007-10, currently is the volunteer coach for OSU’s gymnastics team. She’ll help direct the second-seeded Beavers at the NCAA Auburn Regional Championships this Saturday at 4 p.m. PT.
