Men's Golf Championship Returns To Corvallis For First Time In 10 Years

April 26, 2012
CORVALLIS, Ore. - The last time the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championship was held in Corvallis was 2002 when current Oregon State head coach Jon Reehoorn competed as a senior for Washington State and the Beavers had a share of the lead heading into the final round.
Reehoorn finished in a tie for 14th place that year with a 3-over 71-74-72-74--291 and the Beavers equaled their second-best finish in conference tournament history, placing third to match the 1967 and 1973 teams and finish just a spot back of the 2000 team that took second place.
USC won the team title and Jim Seki of Stanford won medalist honors in 2002 when Trysting Tree Golf Club played to 7,022 yards. The Beavers had four golfers finish in the top 20, led by senior David Yarnes who tied for seventh. Michael Jurgensen finished in a tie for 14th, while brothers Sean and Todd Deacon tied for 17th and 19th, respectively.
This year's tournament, which will be held Friday through Sunday, should be just as competitive with six of the top-12 teams in the nation competing and the addition of Colorado and Utah to the conference. The field also includes 22 of the top-100 individuals in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
The Beavers' lineup will feature seniors Alex Moore and Jonnie Motomochi, juniors Nick Chianello, Nick Sherwood and Matt Rawitzer and sophomore David Fink in the 6-count-5 format.
