Jace Fry Named Pac-12 Pitcher Of The Week

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Oregon State freshman left-handed pitcher Jace Fry has been named the Pac-12 Conference's Pitcher of the Week on Monday.
Fry threw his first career shutout on Saturday in the Beavers' 3-0 win over then-No. 11 UCLA. He scattered six hits and two walks while striking out six, limiting the Bruins one runner at third the entire game. That runner was thrown out at the plate attempting to score from second on an infield single.
He needed just 107 pitches for his fourth win of the season, lowering his earned run average to 2.23. The Beaverton, Ore., native has allowed just three earned runs in 30 1/3 innings in the month of April, amounting to an ERA of 0.89.
His shutout was the first by an Oregon State freshman since Sam Gaviglio downed Stanford, 5-0, in 2009.
Fry is the first Oregon State true freshman to be named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week since Kevin Gunderson on April 27, 2004.
It is the Beavers' first weekly honor of the season and 66th Pitcher of the Week honor since the then-Pac-10 awarded them starting in 1986.
Oregon State plays a non-conference game against Oregon Tuesday night at PK Park in Eugene. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. PT and can be seen live on Comcast SportsNet Northwest (channel 37 on Comcast) in Oregon.
