Last Game
Ryan Gorton hit a two-run single to put Oregon State up for good and Tony Bryant worked 2 1/3 innings for the win as the Beavers downed UCLA, 7-6, Sunday afternoon. UCLA had runners on first and second with two down in the ninth, by Bryant was able to get UCLA right fielder Jeff Gelalich to fly out to left to close out the game. Gorton found runners at second and third in the seventh after Tyler Smith walked and Michael Conforto doubled to right. Gorton hit a 1-1 pitch from UCLA reliever Ryan Deeter.
Last 10
Oregon State is 8-2 over its last 10 games entering Tuesday night’s game against Oregon. As a team, the Beavers are batting .277 over that stretch with eight home runs and are averaging 6.5 runs per game. Opponents are batting .228, averaging 3.3 and have seen OSU’s pitchers tally a 2.86 earned run average.
All He’s Doing Is Hitting
Senior Ryan Gorton has been hot as of late, to say the least. The catcher/designated hitter is on an eight-game hit streak where he is 13-for-27 (.481) with six runs driven in and has recorded six walks and two doubles. His average has jumped from .267 to .368 during the streak.
Another Top 25 Foe
Oregon State’s game Tuesday presents another opportunity for a win against a top 25 team as Oregon is ranked 10th by Baseball America. The Beavers are 4-6 against top 25 teams this season.
They Remember Back Then
OSU has just three players on its club who were with the team when Oregon reinstated its program in 2009 - Taylor Starr, Ryan Gorton and John Tommasini. Starr was with the Beavers in 2008 before the reinstatement but has never faced Oregon due to injury.
Singles
• A hit Tuesday will put Michael Conforto at a 10-game hit streak for the second time this season. He is 13-for-32 (.406) during his current nine-gamer.
• OSU is 19-4 when Conforto drives in at least one run.
• Tuesday’s game is the fifth televised contest in 2012 for OSU and the Beavers are 1-3.
• The Beavers are 5-5 in one-run games and 8-6 when games are decided by two runs or less. OSU was 4-7 and 16-8, respectively, last season.
• OSU is 13-4 when a starter finishes with a quality start.
