Last Game
The Oregon State baseball team dropped a 4-0 decision to No. 11 UCLA to open the three-game series between the teams Friday night at Goss Stadium. Adam Plutko took a no-hitter into the seventh inning for UCLA where it was broken up on a single by Michael Conforto to open the inning.
Bullpen Big At Home
The Beavers’ bullpen recorded 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief on Friday and has been stellar in games at Goss Stadium this season. The group has a 2.69 earned run average in 46 2/3 innings there this season.
Nearly An Anniversary
Saturday’s game will be nine days shy of the Beavers’ last no-hitter. Josh Osich tossed one in a 2-0 win over UCLA on April 30 of last year. Of course, UCLA’s Adam Plutko held OSU hitless until the seventh Friday. The Beavers were last no hit in 1994 by Lewis & Clark State.
TV Game Saturday
The Beavers’ game Saturday will mark OSU’s fourth on television this season. The Beavers would like to break the trend this season; they’re 0-3 in TV games this season with five, including Saturday, remaining.
Conforto And RBI
Friday’s game was a rare one for Michael Conforto where he did not record at least one RBI. The Beavers are 18-4 when he has one this season. Conversely, OSU is 6-8 this season when he does not.
Don’t Run On Rodriguez
Jake Rodriguez threw out yet another runner on Friday night, giving him 24 on the year. He is 24-for-35 (69 percent). He has nearly as many caught stealings as the Beavers have stolen bases (30). Rodriguez is 10-for-14 (71 percent) in stolen-base attempts in Pac-12 play.
Singles
• Michael Conforto extended his hit streak to seven games Friday while Ryan Gorton extended his season-long streak to six games.
• OSU is 1-6 when an opposing starting pitcher throws a quality start.
• The Beavers are 3-1 in games this season where a shutout is thrown.
• OSU has averaged 6.5 runs scored per Jace Fry’s starts this season.
