Last Game
Jake Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the second and Dan Child scattered six hits over 7 1/3 innings to lead the Oregon State baseball team to a 5-0 win over Portland Monday afternoon at Joe Etzel Field. Rodriguez hit a three-run home run in the second - his second round-tripper of the season - to send the Beavers to their 14th consecutive win over Portland and eighth straight at Joe Etzel Field. The home run came on a 2-0 pitch from Portland starter Jeremy Burright and scored Ryan Gorton and Kavin Keyes to give the Beavers a four-run lead.
TV Saturday
Saturday’s game against UCLA is the second of four the Beavers will have televised on KEZI 9.2 and ROOT Sports Northwest this season. Because of this, it is a 1:05 p.m. start instead of the usual 2:05 Saturday start.
Beavers On A 6-Gamer
The Beavers carry their longest win streak of the season - six games - into Friday night’s contest. OSU is batting .316 during the streak while opponents are hitting .197. Oregon State’s pitching staff has an ERA of 2.21 in 53 innings.
Gorton Getting Moving
The most recent addition to the hit streak list is Ryan Gorton, who takes a five-gamer into the UCLA series. The senior is 10-for-16 (.625) with seven runs, three RBI and two doubles during the streak.
Leading The Nation
Michael Conforto comes into the weekend leading the nation in RBI per game at 1.54 (51 RBI in 33 games). He’s second overall to DJ Hicks from Central Florida, who has 54. The Beavers are 18-4 this season when Conforto has at least one in a game.
Limit Opposing Runs
It should be no surprise that the Beavers are more successful when limiting their opponents runs. That has definitely been the case this season as OSU is 10-0 when opponents score two runs or less and 20-5 when scoring five runs or less. The Beavers are 5-10 when scoring five runs or less themselves.
Singles
• The Beavers are 11-1 this season when hitting at least one home run.
• The OSU starting staff has 15 quality starts this season and the Beavers are 11-4 when that occurs.
• Oregon State and UCLA have split the last 10 meetings.
• Pat Casey is 20-21 all-time against UCLA.
