Last Game
Michael Conforto went 4-for-4 with four runs batted in and Joey Matthews drove in two for the second consecutive game as the Oregon State baseball team swept Arkansas-Pine Bluff with a 16-1 win Sunday afternoon at Goss Stadium. Conforto drove in two runs in both the second and fourth innings and finished with four singles on the day. He now has 50 RBI on the season after finishing with 14 over the last five games. Matthews tripled home two in the Beavers’ four-run fourth to highlight the inning.
Against Portland
The Beavers take a 13-game win streak against Portland into Monday’s contest; OSU extended it with an 8-2 win on April 3. The Beavers’ 13-game streak in the series is their second-longest ever behind a 21-game win streak from 1959-69. Oregon State has won seven consecutive in Portland dating back to the 2004 season.
Streaking In Non-Conference Play
The Beavers come into Monday’s game on a seven-game winning streak in non-conference play and have won 12 of their last 13. OSU is 17-5 in non-conference play and are gunning for their fourth straight season - and eight of nine - with 20 or more wins in non-league play.
Something On The Art Of The RBI
It’s easy to note that Michael Conforto’s 50 RBI rank him amongst the nation’s leaders. It can also be said that he has driven in runs in bunches, with the freshman posting 15 multiple-RBI efforts this season. That’s the most in a single season since Darwin Barney’s 18 in 2007.
Looking Back On Last Series
The Beavers’ sweep of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at Goss Stadium over the weekend extended the club’s win streak to five games. It increased the team’s batting average to .284 from .277. OSU also allowed just one earned run in the series, dropping the club’s ERA to 3.64 from 3.94.
The Rotation
The Oregon State starting staff enters Monday’s game with a 3.31 earned run average in 179 1/3 innings. The staff has struck out 127 with 69 walks and opponents are batting .244.
Singles
• The Beavers have allowed 27 runs - an average of 2.1 - during their 13-game win streak over Portland. Conversely, OSU has scored 114, or an average of 8.7.
• Pat Casey’s 49 wins against Portland are the second-most against one club. OSU has defeated Washington State 51 times in his tenure.
