Last Game
Ryan Dunn and Joey Matthews each homered and Pat Casey won his 600th game as Oregon State’s head coach in the Beavers’ 12-2 seven-inning win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff Saturday at Goss Stadium. Dunn and Matthews each hit solo home runs in the game, which was called in the seventh when the Beavers went up by 10 on Matthews’ round-tripper. Michael Conforto led the Beavers with three RBI, giving him 46 on the year. All three came on a triple that highlighted the Beavers’ five-run sixth inning. Dunn, Matthews and Jake Rodriguez all had two RBI.
Casey Wins No. 600
Saturday’s victory for OSU was Pat Casey’s 600th with the Beavers. Casey, who has an OSU record of 600-367-4 in 18 seasons, is the 15th coach in Pac-12 Conference history to reach that plateau. He’s now 13 wins away from tying Jack Riley for the most in an Oregon State uniform.
Tyler Smith Snapped
Tyler Smith had only one official at bat in the Beavers’ win Saturday. He went 0-for-1 with three walks and his hit streak was snapped at 14 games. He went 23-for-49 (.469) with three doubles, a home run and 15 RBI during his streak.
Conforto Inches Closer
Michael Conforto drove in three runs Saturday and now has 46 on the year. He now needs 10 to tie Darwin Barney (2007), Andy Jenkins (2005) and Bill Rowe (2006) for 10th-most in a single season at OSU.
Matthews With A Big Day
Saturday was a day of firsts for Joey Matthews. The outfielder picked up his first multi-RBI effort while at OSU, his first home run and his first multiple-hit game in going 2-for-3.
The ERA Lowers
Oregon State has allowed five runs in the series, and are all are unearned. That has dropped the team’s earned run average from 3.94 to 3.72.
Singles
• Opponents are just 16-for-44 (.363) in stolen-base attempts against the Beavers this season. OSU is 7-for-its-last-8 and 10-of-12 against recent opponents.
• Pat Casey needs four wins to become the 14th-winningest coach in Pac-12 history. That would surpass Washington State’s “Buck” Bailey, who was in Pullman from 1927-42 and 1946-61.
• Oregon State is 14-4 when scoring first this season.
