Day 7 -- The Linebackers are Featured
April 14, 2012
When Trent Bray was racking up awards for his play as a Beaver from 2002-05, head coach Mike Riley envisioned him being an outstanding coach. After three years on the Arizona State staff, Bray is now a member of Riley’s team as the linebackers coach.
Bray inherits a roster that is not overly experienced, but is dotted with a few veterans. Senior Feti Unga and junior Michael Doctor were among the Pac-12’s top tacklers last season combining for 145 stops. Senior Rueben Robinson has started at all three linebacker positions for a total of 11, plus D.J. Welch, Jabral Johnson, Kyle Egan, Josh Williams, Shaydon Akuna and Zeke Sanders have game experience. Junior college transfer Cade Cowdin is also in his first spring practice and ready to contribute.
Opportunities are there for new faces to make a big impact this season as 24-game starter Cameron Collins has graduated and Tony Wilson has retired due to reoccurring injuries.
The OSU video staff produced the following clip and postpractice interview with Bray.
