Last Game
Michael Conforto hit two three-run home runs, including one in the 10th inning, as the Oregon State baseball team downed Nevada, 10-7, Tuesday. Both home runs went to left field for Conforto, who now has eight on the year. Conforto found the Beavers tied at seven with runners on first and second in the top of the 10th. He hit the first pitch he saw from reliever Colby Blueberg over the left field fence – nearly the exact same spot as his fourth-inning home run – to give the Beavers the three-run lead.
Conforto Note
Michael Conforto’s two home runs Sunday gave him a league-leading 43 runs driven in on the year, which is 13 shy of breaking him into the top 10 in a single-season at OSU. His 43 RBI are already more than team leaders from the past two seasons: Stefen Romero (41 in 2010) and Parker Berberet (39 in 2011).
Smith Pushing 13 Games
Tyler Smith comes into the weekend series with a 13-game hit streak, which is one shy of the team-leading 14 gamer Kavin Keyes possessed in 2011. The team’s longest since 2005 is held by both Jacoby Ellsbury (2005) and Cole Gillespie (2006) at 20 games.
Against The SWAC
Oregon State is playing just its second all-time opponent from the Southwestern Athletic Conrerence (SWAC), having played Grambling State in 1968 and winning, 10-5.
Multi-Hit Games
Tyler Smith is at 15 multi-hit games this season, which surpasses last season’s team leader, Kavin Keyes, who had 14. Michael Conforto, Dylan Davis and Ryan Dunn all have 10 apiece as the club is at 75 and on pace for 135 on the year.
Then There’s Multi-RBI
Michael Conforto, meanwhile, has 13 multiple-RBI games this season, including two games with six. The 13 has already passed Parker Berberet’s team-leading 11 last season. Tyler Smith has eight and Ryan Dunn six this season.
Singles
• The Beavers start a stretch of four consecutive games after rescheduling their game with Portland for Monday. OSU just came off a stretch of five games in six days, going 2-3.
• Ryan Gorton has allowed allowed five hits and one run over his last 5 1/3 innings of relief (1.68), a stretch of four games.
• Tyler Smith is ninth nationally with a .436 batting average.
